Mission Statement
Cape Town, 1981-1990. Ten years of student protest. A personal history.
I think it was Doris Lessing who said that once you have lived through the intensity of a war, day to day life can seem rather dull. The war that we lived through from the somewhat weird vantage point of the Green Level of the Student’s Union was the best of times and the worst of times. Kim’s death brought back memories of interminable Varsity lay-out weekends, spies, banner painting, secret meetings and drunken parties. We each have our own personal memories and personal archives, in Kim’s memory let’s delve into our filing cabinets and put together a small collective memoir of that time. What do you remember of Kim van Deventer?
